Old timer told me to trust my ears over the readout, he was right
I had a part coming out .005 oversized on the diameter and the digital readout said the tool was spot on. An old timer named Rick who's been running machines since the 80s told me to stop looking at the screen and listen to the cut. Sure enough, I could hear a faint chatter that meant the insert was chipped. I swapped the insert, the size came right back, and I didn't scrap the next 20 parts. Has anyone else had a moment where your gut or ears saved a job?

Yeah, have you ever noticed how this same kind of thing happens in like... cooking? Or even just fixing stuff around the house? I've caught myself staring at the thermometer on my smoker, but then I step out and just listen to the meat, feel the air. The numbers are a guide, but they can lie to you if something is off. Same with my car, the computer says one thing but the weird vibration in the steering wheel is the real story. It's like we get so focused on the little screen or the readout that we forget our own senses are way better at picking up the subtle stuff.
