Old head at a job shop in Cleveland showed me why I was breaking taps every week
I was snapping 3 or 4 taps a shift on some 316 stainless parts and just figured that was normal. This guy in his 60s walked over, watched me run one cycle, and told me to slow my spindle speed by 300 rpm and use a rigid tap holder instead of a collet. Haven't broken one since. Anyone else have some old timer save them a pile of scrap parts?

Tbh the "worth their weight in gold" part really hits home. Nothing beats having someone around who actually knows the ropes and can save you from making dumb mistakes.
