Just figured out why my tolerances were drifting on the HAAS VF-2
I've been fighting with inconsistent parts for like 3 weeks now. Finally realized the coolant nozzle was spraying directly on the encoder and messing with the readings. Found the fix in a random YouTube comment from some guy in Ohio who had the same problem. Has anyone else had weird issues pop up from something as dumb as coolant placement?

Ha! That is SO typical. I swear these machines have a sixth sense for finding the most ridiculous ways to break themselves. Just last month I had a wire brush sitting on top of the control cabinet, and somehow the vibrations from a heavy cut made it slide just enough to press the cycle stop button every third part. Took me TWO days to figure THAT one out. Coolant spraying on the encoder though, that's a new one even for me. I gotta say, the stuff we put up with to make chips is absolutely INSANE sometimes.

Read about that exact issue on Practical Machinist a few months back, and @richard110's story reminds me of it.
