Had to pick between a $3,000 probe and a $10 edge finder Friday. I made the wrong call.

Boss told me to probe a new part on the 5-axis or use an edge finder since the probe wasn't calibrated yet. I went with the edge finder, hit a clamp, and sent the $8 endmill flying across the shop. Anyone else ever cheap out on setup time and instantly regret it?

And now you know why they pay the setup guys the big bucks right? Gotta love learning the expensive way that the 10 dollar edge finder can cost you way more than 3 grand in the long run. At least you didn't hit yourself with the flying endmill, small victories.
