That week in April when my block in Minneapolis actually cut trash in half
Our street did a 7 day trash weigh-in last April and the whole block came in at 190 pounds, down from 380 the week before, mostly because everyone started composting and stopped buying single use stuff. It felt great until I realized we just moved the waste into compost bags and recycling bins, and our pickup truck still runs on diesel. Did your neighborhood ever do a weigh-in like this, and did it actually change what people toss out?
Man, our block tried the same thing two summers ago and the weigh-in was eye opening. What actually stuck was setting up a shared compost bin three houses down so people didn't have to buy their own bags and forget about them. The numbers dropped for real once it was easy, not just a one week thing.
