That $40 'eco-friendly' composting bin was a total scam for my apartment

Bought a countertop composter from a pop-up in Austin, claimed it broke down scraps in 24 hours, but after 3 weeks it just made a sour mush that stank up my whole kitchen. I lost $40 and a bag of perfectly good veggie scraps. Anyone else tried those and just gone back to freezing scraps for curbside pickup?

Ditching that thing and going straight back to the freezer stash sounds about right. Honestly, those countertop machines are just fancy jars unless you're babysitting them with the exact right moisture and turning schedule, which nobody has time for. I've seen so many people at my complex try them and end up with that same sour smell, and then they just chuck the whole unit in the building's dumpster. Freezing scraps until pickup day is foolproof and costs nothing extra, so why pay $40 to make your kitchen smell like a rotten salad bar? It's basically a science experiment that fails unless you're a lab tech with a timer.
