Shoutout to the old guy at the farmers market who called me out on my plastic bags

I was at the Saturday market in Portland last month buying a bunch of kale and carrots, and this older dude just pointed at my produce bags and said "you know that stuff ends up in the river, right?" Not in a mean way, just matter of fact. He then pulled out a handful of these mesh cotton bags from his pocket and showed me how he's been using the same set for like 8 years. It kind of hit me because I never really thought about those thin plastic bags adding up, you know? Has anyone else had a stranger just casually drop some climate wisdom on you like that?

Yo that's pretty awesome honestly! I had a similar moment a few years back when a lady at the grocery checkout just asked me "do you really need a bag for that single apple?" I was so embarrassed lol. Now I keep a bunch of those mesh bags in my backpack and another set in my car so I never forget them. It's crazy how one random comment can just stick with you and change your whole habit.
