Question about the 'paper straws are useless' take I keep hearing
I mean, I get the frustration when they get soggy, but I saw a study from the University of Florida that said if a city of 100,000 people switched to paper, it could keep about 5 tons of plastic out of the waste stream each year. That's not nothing. It just feels like people focus on the small annoyance instead of the bigger picture. Has anyone else found a good reusable straw that doesn't feel weird to drink from?

Right? That study is the perfect comeback to the soggy straw complaints. I've got a silicone one that folds up (it lives in my bag) and honestly, after a week you don't even notice the texture.

My friend was the same about the texture thing, @the_patricia. She got a metal one and complained for days. Then she left it at work and had to use a paper straw for a week. When she got her metal one back she said it felt totally normal, like her mouth just got used to it.
