PSA: getting my town's recycling program to accept glass took 14 months
Back in March I volunteered to help our neighborhood get glass back into the curbside recycling program after the city cut it in 2022. I figured it would take a few weeks of emails and one meeting. It took 14 months, 22 council meetings, and 3 separate presentations just to get a pilot drop-off site approved in Dayton. Now I keep arguing with people about whether we should push for curbside pickup or just settle for the drop-off bins. One side says curbside is the only way to get real participation and drop-offs are a cop-out. The other side says the pilot data shows people will actually sort their glass if it's close enough, and curbside costs too much. So which is it, hold out for the better system or take the win you can get?
