Overheard my neighbor say his solar panels cut his electric bill by 80 percent in Phoenix
I used to think residential solar was just a gimmick for rich people, but after he showed me his actual utility statements from last July I started seriously looking into quotes for my own house - anyone else see big savings after switching?

Wait, are you sure that 80% figure is actually accurate? Most solar setups in Phoenix offset around 60-70% of your bill unless you have a massive battery system. The sun is strong there but you still pull from the grid at night.

My neighbor got his system installed last March and his June bill was only $22 compared to what used to be around $210. I was skeptical too until I saw his numbers on paper, it's a pretty big difference. We live in Tucson and after getting quotes I ended up with a 7.2 kW setup that covers about 75% of my yearly usage. The summer months are brutal here but even then my bill dropped from $280 to around $60. The real kicker was when he showed me his net metering credits from the winter months that he rolled over to cover the hot months.
