Noticed a big change at my local park after they added rain gardens
I walk my dog at Riverside Park in Portland every morning. About 6 months ago, they put in these rain gardens along the lower path to catch runoff. Now after a heavy rain, the trail doesn't flood anymore and the mud is gone. Has anyone else seen these installed in their area and noticed a difference?

The part about filtering pollutants really surprised me. I had no idea rain gardens could actually clean the water like that, I just thought they helped with puddles. But the algae bloom thing is wild, if that's true then these little gardens are doing way more work than people realize. Davis.emma do you remember where you saw that info about the lake? I want to look it up and see the numbers. My dog steps in mud every morning during wet season so I already loved the rain gardens, but knowing they help the river too makes me want to tell everyone at the park about them.

I was just reading about how rain gardens can actually filter out pollutants from stormwater before it reaches rivers and streams. Someone online said they saw a huge drop in algae blooms after their city installed them near a lake. And the flooding thing makes total sense, like the plants and soil soak up that extra water really fast. It's cool seeing a simple fix actually work that well in a park.
