My neighbor in Phoenix convinced me to get a programmable thermostat

I always thought keeping my AC at 72 degrees all summer was fine, but my neighbor across the street, Mr. Garcia, told me he saves about $40 a month by setting his to 78 when he's at work. He showed me his electric bill from last August, it was only $120 compared to my $180. That conversation made me realize small changes like a $30 thermostat can actually make a real dent in energy use. Has anyone else had a neighbor or friend talk them into a change that actually worked?

Mr. Garcia talked me into switching to LED bulbs, saved me around $15 a month.

Wait, so you're telling me I've been paying extra just to keep my house cold enough to hang meat in? Sounds like Mr. Garcia just saved me $60 a year and a whole lot of side-eye from my wallet.
