My electric bill was way too high until a neighbor showed me a simple trick
For years I thought climate action meant buying solar panels or driving an electric car. Stuff that costs thousands. But my neighbor Carol came over last month and pointed out my attic insulation looked thin. She said most older homes lose 30 percent of their heat through the roof. I went up there with a flashlight and sure enough, it was barely six inches deep in spots. I spent a weekend rolling out extra fiberglass batts from the hardware store. That cost me maybe 150 bucks total. This month my gas bill dropped by nearly 40 dollars and the house feels warmer too. Has anyone else found cheap home fixes that actually cut their energy use a lot?

...and here I was thinking my house was just "naturally drafty" like it had some kind of rustic charm. Turns out it was just me paying the electric company to heat the entire neighborhood. I went with the blown-in cellulose route since my attic is oddly shaped, and it felt like I was being pranked with a giant fluff cannon for two hours. But yeah, my heating bill dropped enough that the stuff paid for itself by February. Next up I'm checking if my water heater has a blanket older than I am.

The cellulose fluff cannon sounds like a nightmare but at least your wallet is warmer now.
