My 2007 Prius versus the new EV I test drove, old school wins for now
So I finally went and drove one of those newer electric SUVs last Saturday, the ones with the big screens and 300 mile range. My Prius has 210,000 miles on it and still gets 44 mpg. The EV felt smooth, sure, but the salesman kept talking about battery degradation and I did the math on charging costs here in Portland. I pay about $35 to fill up my tank twice a month. The EV would cost me around $28 to charge at home but then there's the winter range drop and I take my dog to the coast every other weekend. The infrastructure just is not there yet on Highway 26. Plus the Prius has that little cargo notch where I can fit my fishing rod without folding the seat. I know we need to move forward but my car is already built, driving it into the ground feels like the greener move honestly. Has anyone else done this comparison and stuck with an older hybrid instead of upgrading?
