Installing a heat pump water heater in my Cleveland basement took 3 weekends, not the one Saturday I planned
The old unit was 14 years old and the drip pan was rusted through, so I figured a swap would be simple. Turns out the 240V circuit ran to the wrong corner and I had to reroute it through a finished ceiling, which ate two full days. Did anyone else get stuck on the electrical side of this, or am I just slow?
Two weekends on a ceiling reroute honestly doesn't sound that bad to me. I mean, fishing 240V through a finished ceiling is a pain no matter who you are, and half the people who say it took them one Saturday are leaving out the part where they had help or got lucky with where the old wire already ran. Maybe it's just me but a 14 year old unit with a rusted pan usually means the circuit was never set up great to begin with, so fixing it right was kinda owed anyway. The part that would bug me is less the time and more that you didn't find the wrong corner until you'd already hauled the new unit down there. Still, three weekends to end up with it done right beats one rushed Saturday and a code problem later.
