Found out last week that one cargo ship pollutes as much as 50 million cars and I just stood there in my kitchen staring at my recycling bin feeling real dumb

Saw this in a BBC article someone shared on Reddit and now I keep wondering if my little efforts even matter when a single vessel can burn 300 tons of bunker fuel a day, has anyone else run into stats that just make you question everything?

Yeah but have you noticed how everything is set up to make us feel responsible while the real damage happens somewhere else? Like you'll see those ads about turning off the tap when brushing your teeth, but then you drive past a factory that's been pumping out smoke 24/7 for decades. I recycle every can and bottle, yet my town still dumps all the recycling into the same truck as regular trash half the time lol. It's like they want us to focus on the tiny stuff so we don't look too hard at the big picture. Makes you wonder who benefits from us feeling guilty about our plastic straws.

Wait wait wait, they dump recycling in with regular trash?? @sanchez.sean that's honestly insane to me. I mean I knew some places were shady about it but I figured it was like a rumor or whatever. So all that time I spent rinsing out cans and separating paper was basically for nothing? That makes me so mad lol. It's like they set up the whole system just to make us feel like we're helping while they do whatever they want on the back end. No wonder people give up on trying when the system itself is broken.
