Used to scrub my chrome with steel wool until a guy at a swap meet in Dearborn set me straight
For years I cleaned the bumpers on my 66 Galaxie with steel wool and Coke, and I thought those fine scratches were just patina. Then a guy at the Dearborn swap meet watched me do it and said I was basically sanding off the chrome one layer at a time. Now I use plain warm water, a microfiber cloth, and a little car soap, and the bumpers still shine after 2 seasons. Did anyone else get taught a bad cleaning habit by a family member that took a stranger to break?
