Unpopular opinion: I glued my cracked mug handle instead of retiring it, and now I'm second guessing myself
I dropped my go to camping mug on the tile floor in my kitchen 3 weeks ago and the handle snapped clean off. It was a gift from my sister when she lived in Portland, so it means a lot to me. I was torn between using food safe epoxy to glue it back on or just retiring it and buying a new one. I went with the epoxy and it has held up fine for 8 cups of coffee a day so far. But now I keep wondering if I made the right call or if I should have just let it go. Does anyone here glue handles back on or is that crossing a line for you?
Gluing a mug handle is not some big moral test you need to pass. You fixed a thing you like instead of throwing it in a landfill and dropping 20 bucks on a replacement. The epoxy is holding, you've run like 170 cups through it, and nobody died. If you're really worried, just don't put the glued part in the dishwasher and check it once in a while. That's it. That's the whole crisis.
