The little old lady at the diner who saved my chipped mug from the trash

I was about to toss my favorite mug with a crack running down the side when this 80-year-old waitress grabbed my wrist and said "honey, that crack tells a story, don't you dare." She told me hers has been glued back together twice and she's had it for 42 years, which made me feel like a quitter for not giving mine a second chance.

Honestly, this is wild timing because I was just thinking about this the other day. I think we live in this weird era where everything is supposed to be disposable and perfect. Like if your phone cracks you just buy a new one, if a shirt gets a hole you toss it. But that old waitress gets it. She's lived long enough to know that the stuff with scars is usually the stuff that matters most. A chipped mug isn't broken. It's earned its stripes. We're all too quick to throw things away just because they're not shiny and new anymore.
