The chipped stoneware mug won over the ceramic one at work

Last week I brought both of my desk mugs in. The ceramic one is prettier but slippery. The stoneware one has a chip on the rim and a coffee stain ring, but it grips better and keeps heat longer. I left the ceramic one home. Has anyone else ditched a nice mug for a beat-up one that just feels better?

My second ex wife bought me this fancy handmade mug from a pottery place in Portland, cost like 60 bucks. That mug was beautiful but the handle was too thin for my fingers and the glaze made it slide right out of my hand, almost dropped it three times. The mug I actually use now is this ugly yellow diner mug I grabbed from a thrift store for a dollar, it has a crack on the side but the surface is rough enough that my hand locks onto it. Does that chipped rim bother your lips when you drink from it or did you get used to that? Because I think that feeling would be a dealbreaker for me, but I also get that a mug is about the whole experience, not just one flaw.
