My grandma's old coffee mug from 1962 finally chipped last week

I was over at her place helping pack up some stuff and she pulled out this ceramic mug with a faded rooster on it. She told me she got it from a gas station in Amarillo, Texas for 50 cents back when she was driving cross country with my grandpa. She said she kept using it even after the handle broke off because it reminded her of the time they ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere and some stranger helped them out. Has anyone else got a mug that's basically held together by memories? I'm thinking about asking her if I can have it now that it's got its first chip.

A gas station mug with a rooster that's survived since 1962? That thing has more history than most museums (and probably a lot more coffee stains). You absolutely should ask for it, that chip is basically a badge of honor at this point. I bet that mug has seen more road trips and late-night talks than any of us ever will. Honestly the handle breaking off just makes it more character, like a grizzled old veteran of the coffee wars. Take it and treasure it, just maybe don't microwave it.

Nah, some things are better left in the past, that mug sounds like a grime hazard.
