My favorite mug got a chip after 3 years and I still can't bring myself to toss it

I dropped it washing dishes last March and the chip is tiny (like, pinky-nail sized) but it's the mug my sister gave me before she moved to Portland, and every time I use it I think of her, so has anyone else held onto a chipped mug for sentimental reasons way longer than practical sense would suggest?

Honestly I'd say just toss it. A chip means it's only a matter of time before that thing breaks in your hands or cuts your lip. I've learned the hard way that keeping broken stuff around just makes you feel weird every time you use it, like you're holding onto a problem. My sister gave me a blanket years ago and I held onto it for way too long after it started unraveling, and it just made me grumpy every time I saw the loose threads. Get a new mug, take a picture of the old one if you need to, but let the chip go before it becomes a bigger thing.

Barbara said "holding onto broken stuff just makes you feel weird" and she's right, but I think it's weirder trying to pretend a replacement mug is the same. That chip is basically a memory scar now, like a little dent in your car from a road trip, it's part of the story. I say keep using it but run your thumb over the spot every time you wash it, that way you know exactly where it is and it won't sneak up on you.
