My favorite camping mug met a gravel road and I'm keeping it anyway

I picked up this heavy enamel mug at a thrift store in Flagstaff for $2 and it's been with me on like 15 trips now. Last weekend I dropped it on a gravel patch near the fire pit and a little chip came off the rim, but honestly I think I like it more now. The chip makes it feel like we've been through something together, you know? I've got other mugs at home that are perfectly fine but this one just hits different when I'm out in the woods. Has anyone else kept a mug after a damage that seemed like a dealbreaker at first?

The part where you said "it feels like we've been through something together" really got me. That's exactly what makes a piece of gear special, you know? I have this old thermos with a dent on the side from when I dropped it on a rocky trail, and every time I see that dent I remember that trip. It's not ruined, it's just got a story now. Enamel mugs are tough anyway, a chip on the rim just gives it character. Plus now you'll always be careful drinking from that spot and that kind of becomes part of the ritual. I'd keep it too, no question.

Whoa, actually enamel chips can rust if the metal underneath gets exposed too long.
