I finally got the story behind my dad's chipped mug after 15 years

I've been using this old blue mug with a big chip on the rim since I was a kid. Last weekend at a family BBQ in Cleveland, my uncle noticed it and started laughing. Turns out my dad chipped it back in 1998 when he threw it at the TV because the Browns lost a playoff game. He never told me because he was embarrassed about losing his cool over football. Now every time I drink from it, I picture that moment and it cracks me up. Does anyone else have a mug with a funny origin story like that?

... so my buddy's dad chipped his mug when he missed a putt and threw it at a tree.

Wait, that's not right. You don't chip a mug by missing a putt and throwing it at a tree. A chip is a tiny broken piece from the rim or handle, not a crack or shatter. Throwing a mug full force at a tree would more likely crack it wide open or smash it into pieces. Unless his mug was made of some super tough ceramic. And even then, a chip is like a small nick, not a big gash. I think your buddy's dad probably just took a divot out of the grass with the putter, not the mug.
