Hot take: That famous coffee shop in Portland with the chipped mugs is actually overrated
I went to Heartwood Cafe last March and watched a barista grab a chipped mug off the shelf for my pour-over, and honestly the chip made it harder to drink from without spilling, so why does everyone pretend imperfections make it better? Has anyone else had a chipped mug that actually made the experience worse instead of more charming?

Funny enough, the chip didn't cut me but it made the rim uneven so coffee kept dribbling down the side. For me that whole chipped mug thing feels like a performance rather than genuine character. You can have a perfectly smooth mug that's been well loved and still feels cozy. I get that some people like the rustic look but a chipped mug is just harder to use in my experience. Maybe I'm in the minority but I'd take a clean, functional mug over a chipped one any day. The charm wears off quick when you're wiping coffee off your shirt.
