Grandpa's old thermos mug now that I finally used it on a real job

I always kept this chipped blue mug because it was his, but I figured hot coffee would taste like tin. Yesterday I poured in some cheap gas station brew and sat on a cold curb in Cincinnati, and the warmth actually held for two hours. The chip on the rim makes the lip feel different, sort of like a notch that fits my mouth. It hit me that the dent isn't a flaw, it's just the spot where his hands held it for thirty years. Anyone else got a mug they finally used after storing it forever, and it beat what you expected?

That chipped rim thing really got me. My dad had this old Stanley with a cracked lid I kept for years, finally took it on a roofing job last fall. The coffee stayed warm through a full morning of rain, but what got me was the wobble in the handle, my hand just found the groove like it was made for me. Makes you wonder about all the lunches and bad days that thing saw before you ever picked it up. Keep using it, that notch is part of the story now.
