Found a coffee mug at a junk sale in Tucson that changed how I see chips

I was down in Tucson last spring hitting up some estate sales and found this old diner mug with a big chip out of the rim. The guy running the sale told me it was his dad's mug from 30 years of working at a place called The Dusty Boot. I bought it for a dollar and now every time I drink from that chipped side I think about how many mornings that old man must have leaned on that counter. Anybody else got a mug with a story tied to a specific person or place?

Hold up, wait. The GUY SELLING IT was the son of the guy who owned the mug for 30 years? That's wild. You literally bought a piece of that family's history from the guy who grew up watching his dad drink out of it. Bet he felt weird selling it but knew you'd appreciate the story more than a random flipper would.

Whoa that's a crazy connection. I actually read somewhere that stuff like that happens more than you'd think with estate sales, where the family just wants the thing to go to someone who gets it. Sounds like a cool closure for both of you.
