Appreciation post: my cracked diner mug from the 24 hour spot on Route 9
I got this heavy white mug about six years ago at a diner off Route 9 in Jersey. It had a hairline crack in the handle already, and the waitress let me take it home for two bucks. Last month I poured boiling water in it and the crack spread a little, but it still holds coffee fine, so I kept using it. Then my girlfriend pointed out the crack was turning brown, and I realized it was just years of coffee stain living inside the crack itself. So I soaked it in vinegar for a day and the brown mostly came out, but a faint line stays behind. Now I kind of like that line. Does anyone else have a crack that holds flavor no matter what you do to it?
