Why does nobody talk about how creosote logs leave that weird orange residue on stainless liners
I used to toss one in every spring for maintenance until I pulled my liner out last fall and found this tacky orange film that took twice as long to scrub off as just brushing it manually, so now I only use them on masonry chimneys - anyone else run into this or just me?

Well, I learned the hard way too. I used those creosote logs for years until I pulled out my liner and found that orange gunk stuck on like bad wallpaper. Now I just stick to a good chimney brush and a shop vac, since I'm already clumsy enough without adding sticky residue to the mix. My neighbor calls me the "orange liner lady" now, which is fair I suppose.

Betty that neighbor nickname is gold, but sorry you had to find out the hard way. That orange gunk sounds like a nightmare to deal with, I'd probably just give up and buy a new liner at that point.
