Vent: Tired of rookies not checking the flue liner condition first
I pulled up to a job last Wednesday where someone had already swept a chimney with a cracked clay liner and didn't say a word about it, just left the homeowner with a fire hazard. How do you miss that when the brush is literally rattling past broken pieces?

Did you find any actual chunks of clay in the ash pan or just feel the brush catch?

Used to think the brush scraping meant actual clay chunks, but a few sessions of panning changed my mind on that. Spent a good hour picking through what I thought was solid material and it just crumbled to dust the second it hit water. Wasted time but at least now I know the difference when I'm out there.
