Tried a cheap rotary brush from Harbor Freight, figured it'd be junk
Picked up their $25 chimney cleaning attachment last month because I forgot my good one at a job. It actually held up through three full sweeps on some heavy creosote. Anyone else found a budget tool that surprised them?

Was the creosote wet or dry? I've found a lot of the cheap brushes work fine on dry stuff but turn into a mess if there's moisture mixed in. My Harbor Freight one started shedding bristles on the second job.

That "shedding bristles" line hit home for me. I had a cheap Purdy knockoff that basically shed on a dry fence stain job, so moisture wasn't even the issue. @nancy929 I'm starting to think there's a secret factory that just makes brushes that look okay but actually hate wood. My Harbor Freight one is now a dedicated glue spreader because it can't be trusted with paint anymore.
