Old shop trick for sooty flues still works better than I thought

Had a tough job in a 1920s house in Cleveland where the creosote was baked on like concrete. Tried scrubbing with the regular rods for 20 minutes with no luck, so I grabbed a burlap sack stuffed with chain links and ran it up and down the flue. That old timer method knocked it loose in 5 minutes flat. Anyone else still keep a burlap bag in their truck for stubborn jobs?

Grabbed a gunnysack filled with old horse shoe chain from my dads truck last year on a job in a 1890s Victorian up in Buffalo. That baked on creosote was a nightmare, regular brushes wouldn't even scratch it. Ran that bag up and down maybe four times and it came off in big flakes, saved me at least an hour of scraping. Old school methods just work sometimes, no shame in keeping a sack handy.
