Just hit 1,000 cleanings and it surprised me how many were repeat customers

I did the math last night and realized I've done over 1,000 chimney cleanings in the last 5 years. What really got me was that almost 400 of those were callbacks from the same people. I figured most folks just call once and forget about it, but there's a solid chunk who schedule every year like clockwork. Some of these houses I've been cleaning for 4 years straight now. It made me think about how word of mouth spreads in this trade, since about half of those repeats came from referrals. I never saw myself as someone building a regular client list, but here we are. Has anyone else tracked how many of your jobs are return customers versus new ones?

Yeah, well, congrats on your little pile of wood ash and carbon monoxide. 400 repeat customers means those people either love your work or they're terrified their house is gonna burn down if they skip a year. Either way, you're winning. I'm guessing the referrals come from the ones who didn't have to call the fire department after you left. Word gets around fast when you're the one guy who doesn't leave a mess on their rug. Just don't let that number go to your head, you're still just the guy with the brush on a rope.
