I spent a full day on a blocked flue in an old house on Maple Street

The homeowner said it was just a routine sweep, but I found a massive bird nest packed with mud and twigs about 8 feet down. My standard rods and brushes were useless, so I had to improvise with a shop vac hose and a long grabber tool. Has anyone else dealt with a nest that solid, and what's your go-to method for breaking it up without damaging the clay liner?

You sure it wasn't just a regular blockage that got packed down? Sometimes old nests crumble pretty easy with a good stiff rod. That clay liner is tough, a little careful poking shouldn't crack it.

My buddy swears by a pressure washer nozzle on a long hose for packed mud nests.
