Heard a homeowner mention using dryer sheets in their flue

Was doing a routine sweep in Columbus yesterday and the guy casually said his neighbor stuffs used dryer sheets up the chimney to 'freshen' the smell. That coating can stick to creosote and make it worse, has anyone run into this and had to scrape extra hard?

Used dryer sheets seem pretty harmless compared to the other junk people chuck up there honestly. Maybe the real issue is just folks not cleaning regularly, not the fabric softener itself.
