Had a customer tell me I was brushing too hard on their flue tiles

Old guy in Reston VA watched me do a level 2 inspection and said I was scratching up his terra cotta with that stiff wire brush. I pushed back at first but then tried a nylon brush on the next job and honestly it cleaned just as well without leaving marks. Anyone else switch to softer brushes after getting called out?
