Finally got a repeat customer after 8 years of sweeping

This older couple in Maplewood called me back for their spring cleaning, second time in two seasons. Last fall I noticed their liner was warped near the top and quoted them $400 to fix it, they hesitated but went with it. When I pulled up today they said the draft is better than it's been in a decade. Has anyone else seen a liner repair make that big a difference in how fast the creosote builds back up?

Warped liner near the top is almost always the culprit for slow draft. That gap lets cool air sneak in and messes with the whole chimney column, so creosote sticks way faster. Sounds like your repair sealed it up tight, and with better draft, they'll likely see a cleaner burn and less buildup this season. Did you check the cap and the first few feet of flue while you were there, since that area usually takes the worst of the weather?
