Creosote log gave me a false sense of security last month

I was cleaning out a flue last October near Denver and found this thick, crusty layer of glazed creosote that looked like it had been there for years. Turns out the homeowner had been tossing in those chemical creosote sweeping logs every few weeks thinking it would break down the buildup. Has anyone else run into a situation where those logs just made the mess stickier and harder to scrape off?

Yeah those logs just glue the crud on there.

Tbh I dunno if it's that deep. People act like those logs are the devil but it's probably just the quality of the wood or the chimney itself, not the log alone.
