Can we talk about misjudging flue sizes on older builds?
Honestly, back when I started, we often guessed based on the fireplace opening. A wrong guess once led to a brush getting stuck for hours. Now I always measure twice before even setting up.

Ever just eye up the fireplace and guess? I used to do that all the time, thinking the opening was a good guide. Then I had a brush jam in a tapered flue on a Victorian house, and it was a huge hassle to free it. That made me switch to always taking actual measurements first.

Guessing just isn't worth the potential disaster! A stuck brush can turn into a real safety issue if it blocks the whole flue. Taking those two minutes to measure saves so much trouble later.
