Bird nest in a flue in Bakersfield, and the smell I won't forget

Last Tuesday I was on a job in Bakersfield, an old ranch house with a fireplace the owner never used, and the second I pulled the brush down I hit something soft that wouldn't budge. Turned out to be a bird nest the size of a basketball, packed in tight, and when the brush broke it open the whole living room filled with this awful smell. I ended up taping off the firebox with plastic, running my vac hose through a window, and pulling it out in small chunks so nothing hit the carpet. Took me four passes with the brush before the flue was clean and I could run a mirror up to check it. How do you all handle nests and critters, do you charge it as a separate line item or just roll it into the sweep?
