Vent: Found out my walk-in cooler was 10 years older than I thought

I was cleaning out the back of our walk-in last Tuesday and found the serial number tag hidden behind a shelf. Turns out the unit was installed in 2005, not 2015 like the previous owner told me. Has anyone else found out something about their equipment that made them question everything they were told?

2005 huh. I once ran a pizza place for three years before I realized my “two year old” mixer was actually from the late 90s. Found out when the belt snapped and the repair guy pointed at the date code on the motor. I felt like an idiot but I guess the upside was it lasted way longer than it should have.

The date code thing is wild when you start looking for it. Found out my ice machine was from 2007 because the internal wiring was cloth wrapped and the repair guy said he hadn't seen that in years. It still worked fine until last month when it finally gave out, so I guess old equipment just keeps chugging along until you need to pull the plug.
