That 30 dollar thermapen clone beat my 100 dollar probe after 2 shifts

Been using a fancy wireless probe for pit temps and thought it was the holy grail. Then it kept reading 40 degrees off what my old instant read said. Grabbed a cheap one off amazon just to double check, turns out the expensive one was the liar. Calibrated it, still drifting. Now I keep both in the kit and cross check on every brisket. Anyone else had a pricey tool just straight up lie to you?
