Showerthought: I heard a new cook call a whisk a 'wire whip' and it took me back to my first kitchen job in '08.

It made me realize how much the little words and the quiet, shared language of a kitchen crew have faded with all the quick-turnover spots and YouTube-taught cooks, you know?

Calling a whisk a piano is actually a different thing in my experience. A piano is the slang for a flat-top grill, because of the way you play the knobs. The old slang is still around, but it gets mixed up sometimes.

My last kitchen gig in 2022 still had a guy who called it a piano. That old slang isn't gone, it just moved to the good places that pay enough to keep people.
