I dropped $200 on a 'professional' garlic press that broke on the second clove
I mean, it was this heavy duty stainless steel thing, supposed to be a lifetime buy. I got it for a big catering job last month, needed to prep like 40 heads. The first clove went through fine, but the second one, the handle just snapped clean off. The metal was so brittle it looked like cheap pot metal inside. Had to mince everything by hand while the clock was ticking. Anyone else have a kitchen tool that totally let them down right when they needed it?

Look, sometimes you just get a bad unit. That happens with everything made by people. You probably just got the one in ten thousand with a hidden flaw. For all you know, that same press is working perfectly in a hundred other kitchens right now. Blaming the whole tool is unfair when most of them are probably solid. Maybe you put sideways pressure on it without realizing, or that second clove had a weird hard spot. Stuff breaks.

Wait, one in ten thousand? That's crazy low odds. You're saying I basically won the world's worst lottery with a garlic press. I find that hard to believe. If it was that rare, I wouldn't see so many people online complaining about the exact same thing breaking. A weird hard spot in a garlic clove shouldn't snap a metal tool in half.
