Had a whole mise system for 8 years, one ticket printer changed it

I always judged expo tickets off the old-school printed ones, but the kitchen at my new spot in Portland uses a screen on a stand and it took me 2 shifts to see the difference. The colors and timestamps actually make priorities obvious, so I stopped shouting for the one thing I thought was behind and just read the board. Does anyone else run a digital system or am I the last guy clinging to paper?

wait no, the timestamps are the exact reason i switched back to paper after a year. the screen only shows when it was sent to the printer, not when it actually hit the rail. so you get a ticket that says 2 minutes but it's been sitting there for 10 because the printer jammed or someone cleared it wrong. with paper you see the physical order of the tickets and you know the oldest one is the one on the bottom. plus the screen only shows like 6 orders at a time on my old spot, so you lose track of what's buried behind the current page. my expo kept calling out stuff that was already done cause the screen updated faster than the kitchen could fire. the colors are nice but they don't fix the core problem, which is that the screen lies to you. i still run paper on busy nights and use the screen as backup for the server chits only.
