Expiration date on my knife roll made me panic mid-shift in Portland
I was prepping for Friday dinner service and grabbed my favorite petty knife. Felt a weird sticky spot on the handle, looked down, and saw the rubber grip was melting off into my hand. Checked the roll and nearly every handle had gone tacky after 4 years of sweat, heat, and nightly sani baths. Swapped to backup knives for the whole rush, then spent my Saturday off rewrapping every handle with hockey tape and heat shrink. Anyone else had gear degrade on them during a shift, or is my hand chemistry just that toxic?
