Bought a $200 'professional' mandoline that's now a drawer weight
Saw a fancy ad for a stainless steel mandoline with all the guards. Figured it would save me hours on prep for a big catering job. The blade was dull right out of the box and the safety guard slipped off on the first onion. Ended up using my old knife anyway and nearly cut my thumb. Anyone have a brand that actually holds up?

Honestly that sounds about right for fancy kitchen gadgets. Tbh my expensive mandoline also became a fancy paperweight after one scary carrot incident. Ngl the safety features on those things seem more dangerous than just using a knife. You'd think for two hundred bucks it could at least cut something besides your confidence.

My fancy juicer met the same fate (collecting dust after one messy morning). It made less juice than it used electricity, which felt like a bad joke. Some gadgets just have a way of making you feel silly for buying them.
