A funny mix-up at my cousin's wedding rehearsal dinner

I learned that a dash of vinegar can save over-salted soup when a guest quietly suggested it.

Has anyone actually tried the vinegar trick? I gave it a shot last winter when I messed up a batch of potato soup. It just made the whole pot taste kinda sharp and weird, like sour salt. For me, adding a peeled raw potato to simmer for a while works way better, or if it's a creamy soup, just diluting it with more milk or plain broth. Maybe it depends on the type of soup you're making?

My friend's vinegar fix (huge mistake) echoed @anna_green48's soup story.

Honestly, I gotta disagree a bit here @anna_green48 - the vinegar trick actually works for me if you add it super early (like when you first start cooking the onions) so it cooks off some of that sharpness. I think the raw potato thing is hit or miss too, sometimes it just makes the soup taste like starchy potato water.
