The week my 12-inch Lodge cracked right down the middle
I always thought preheating slowly was overblown until last Tuesday when I put my cold pan straight on a gas burner on high. Fifteen minutes later a hairline crack ran from rim to rim while searing a pork chop. Anybody else had a pan fail like that from thermal shock, or was mine just a dud from the start?

Ngl that thermal shock got you good, cast iron cracks fast like that.

Oh man, I feel your pain. I did the exact same thing a few months ago with my old 10-inch skillet - figured I'd save time and cranked the burner, heard this awful ping sound a few minutes later. Cracked right across the bottom while I was searing a steak, totally ruined my dinner and my pan.
