Saw another video telling people to wash cast iron with soap
It's every week now. Someone on social media says "modern soap is fine" and douses their pan in Dawn. People act like that rule from grandma is just old wives' tales. I get it. I use soap on my stainless pots. But I've stripped three seasoning layers from a single wash before. My lodge skillet took me two months to build a decent coat. One wash with soapy water and it was patchy. Not worth the risk. Stick to salt and a rag. Has anyone else had to reseason because they listened to that advice?

so if soap is so bad, why do most modern cast iron brands literally say you can use mild soap? you're telling me lodge's own instructions are wrong? look up their website right now. @skylerw87 probably scrubbed with one of those green scotchbrite pads and a ton of dawn. i use a drop of plain dawn on a soft sponge, rinse it off quick, dry it on the stove with some heat, and a thin layer of oil. never had patchy seasoning. my pan's been going strong for years with that routine.
